Optimally the liquid preparation should be dropped directly on to the mucous membrane of the mouth including the lips, ideally in horses and donkeys by pulling out the labial pouch. Where animal finds this distressful or an owner is unable to comply, the medication can be put on the food e.g. half an apple, or in water. Where an animal is sensitive to the odor of the alcohol preservative a 10-20 minute period should be allowed for the alcohol to evaporate before the dose is presented to the animal. Occasionally an animal will shake its head in response to receiving the dose.
